Whyt Whey Home
Every Tuesday, at 6:30 or 7pm, the Canton of Brokenbridge hosts fighter practice at McCarren Park in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The practice is held by the grass baseball field which is surrounded by the tall clusters of spotlights, to the east (right, if you're walking north). By subway you can get to McCarren Park (note spelling) by taking the L train to Bedford Ave then walking north on Bedford to 12th st, the southern end of the park, or the G train to Nassau Ave, which will be at the northen end of the park.(Bedford Ave terminateswhen it intersect with Nassau Ave and Lorimer St. at the northern end of the park). By car you can get there from Brooklyn and Staten Island by taking the BQE to the McGuinness Blvd/Humboldt street6 exit. Take the left turn off the ramp on to McGuinness Blvd. Take McGuinness a few blocks to Driggs Ave. (this is the border between several neighborhoods, so the streets intersect, bend, and terminate from different angles, so the term "block" is very loosley defined. Fortunately you do not have far to go). Make a left on Driggs and go a few blocks and the park you will find on your right (not the one on the left) is the northeast corner of the section of McCarren park the practice will be in. Continuing down Nassau to N 12th st, then making a right and going one block will take you to N.12th and Bedford Ave. By car from Queens and points beyond, take the BQE to the Meeker Ave/ Morgan St exit (1st exit in Brooklyn). Continue along Meeker Ave (the road that paralells the BQE) to Driggs Ave (which angles off Meeker at about 30 degrees to the right). Go down Driggs and a few blocks and the park you will find on your right (not the one on the left) is the northeast corner of the section of McCarren park the practice will be in. Continuing down Nassau to N 12th st, then making a right and going one block will take you to N.12th and Bedford Ave. From Manhattan take whatever bridge will get you to the BQE, and then follow from abovoe according to whether you got on the BQE in Brooklyn or Queens. There are delis, bars, pizza, and restaurants within easy walking from the park, and several between the park and the L train.
