Whyt Whey Commons - June 12, 2003 Attending: Ailith Eppu Jensen Alexandre d'Avigne Jeff Berry AEllin Olafs dotter Anne Murphy Eularia Trewe Lorree True Medb ingen Muiredaich Mimi Curry Sancha de Flores Jessica Valadez Tadg ui Duinn Paul Hilts Continuing Business: 1) The next commons meeting was scheduled for July 17th at 7:30 PM. The site will be Medb's apartment. This is later than usual due to the Seneschal and Chronicler's trip to France which conflicts with the usual dates. There will be no Commons Meeting in August. If business needs to be done, it will be handled "in committee" by the involved parties. 2) A sewing circle is scheduled for July 9th and another for August 20th, at Medb's as usual. Officers Reports: 1) Knight Marshall: Tadg reported that the weather has been iffy, but when it was raining Union Square fighter practice has been going well. One of the other local practices has lost their Tuesday night site, so we may see a bit more attendance as a result. The June 10th practice was very well attended. 2) Mistress of A&S: Derboghail emailed a report covering the activity in the canton. She also tendered her resignation effective as of July 1, since she will be moving to Eisental at the end of June. She will be missed! Anyone interested in taking over as A&S Officer should contact either or both of the Seneschal, Alexandre, and Derboghail. 3) Web Minister: No direct report, but the website continues to be updated and is a pretty effective report itself. 4) Exchequer: Sean and Alexandre will get to the paperwork next week. No, really. 5) Herald: Sancha the online roll of arms is now up - it is linked off of the Whyt Whey page (http://www.in-nyc.com/sca/) under the Herald's Office. A book was donated to the Herald's office as well, "Heraldry: The Story of Armorial Bearings" by Walter Buehr. 6) Seneschal: All quiet on the Eastern front. 7) Chronicler: The Cheesecloth was done and distributed to attendees. The actual mailing will go out on Monday to the rest of the mailing list. Copies will be brought to Fighter Practice and Josie Woods. The Chronicler asked that all the Cantonians keep and ear open and submit to her information for the "By the Whey" section of the newsletter in particular. She is looking for any news pertaining to Canton members, especially from events that she does not attend; things like awards and competitions or tourneys won, certainly, but also any other little bits of information of interest to other Canton members. New Business: 1) Sancha suggested trying to put together a "Pilgrimage" event, and some ideas were batted around. Some discussion of this on the Whyt Whey or Ostgardr list may follow. 2) Sancha and Sean are going hurley stick shopping in Yonkers. Upcoming Events: 1) There are several more War Practices scheduled in the next month or two at Kissena Park, with more information to be forthcoming. Medb said she'll probably provide sandwiches at one or the other. 2) The Yule Event is still on for December 6th at Medb's building, if it is still available. We need to get proof of insurance and Not-for-Profit status for the building so we can get the deposit down and lock in the date. Alexandre will get those from the Ostgardr Seneschal at Ostgardr Commons next week, and then he and Medb will meet with the building managers to firm things up. The very rough schedule is something like: set-up, the play about Saint Nicolas, feast, dancing. One question is whether we will be able to get the site for 10 hours or only 5, which would affect scheduling. Submitted by Alexandre d'Avigne
