Whyt Whey Commons - September 11, 2003 Attending: Alexandre d'Avigne Jeff Berry Eularia Trewe Lorree True Jan van Antwerpen Richard D. Sanford, Jr. Llywellan ap Rhys Tom McCann Lynn Lynn McCann Medb ingen Muiredaich Mimi Curry Mike Mike Feliu Sancha de Flores Jessica Valadez Sean O'Suillaebhain Beer Sean M. Sullivan Tadg ui Duinn Paul Hilts Tamara Tamara Bedic Continuing Business: 1) October commons will be October 9th at 7:30 at Medb's place. on Sep. 11. The October meeting will be back at Medb's. After October, there will be no more commons at Medb's until next March. Commons will therefore be at 552 Riverside, unless another space becomes available. Sean is still working on getting the Hunter student group going and that might provide meeting space. 2) Sewing circles are scheduled for September 17th and October 29th, at Medb's as usual. Medb will no be hosting sewing circle December, January or February. 3) Ostgardr Commons on Nov. 24th will be at 552 Riverside. Officers Reports: 1) Knight Marshall: After many long years of service, Tadg will be leaving us to live in Atenveldt, Tucson, AZ to be specific. This move is coming up quite soon. His deputy, Jibril will be taking over. The pair will be meeting with the Parks officials before Tadg's departure so that the transition will be as smooth as possible. Tadg reported that Jibril would like to explore the possibility of relocating Fighter Practice from Union Square to Battery Park. Tadg has also been approached by some families at the Union Square practice who are interested in getting their children involved in Youth Combat (boffer). There was some discussion of the mechanics involved in this, and the necessity of getting a location and a marshal, and the firm belief of everyone at the commons that the parents *must* be heavily involved. It was suggested that Tadg contact Don Jost, from CT (Dragonship Haven I think - Ed.) who has some experience with running youth practices. Tadg will be greatly missed. 2) Mistress of A&S: Tamara attended many classes at Pennsic, and gathered all the handouts she could. She has been gathering handouts from classes that others attended as well and is creating a library for use in the Canton and surrounding areas. A suggestion was made to scan them and put them on the web, but it was pointed out that permission would need to be obtained from each of the authors before that could be done. She further suggested that something be done to improve the Canton and Province stock of loaner clothes - Gold Key. Several possibilities were discussed, first and foremost a simple call for contributions. In addition the idea of having a T-tunic making part to whip up some loaner garb was batted about. Possibly some Canton funds could be used to purchase some cloth for the project. Making a presentation to the Ostgardr Chatelaine of the collected materials at some event down the line was also discussed. The format for the A&S Display at the Yule Event was talked about a bit. 3) Web Minister: Lev is apparently quite busy at work, showing up late to fighter practice and so forth, and hasn't been to Commons in a while. The website is not being updated very well and concern was expressed by several members about the out-of-date information on the site. Several solutions were discussed, and Alexandre will talk to Lev about them. 4) Exchequer: A few reservations have come in for the Yule event. Hopefully more will be coming in soon. Jan is back from his service in Iraq so we now have a plethora of Exchequery talent, and the exact distribution of duties will be discussed amongst them. 5) Herald: Some people are consulting with the Herald and Sancha is getting about one submission each month, she says. Tadg (I think) suggested we try to get a copy of Fox-Davies for the library. The Whyt Whey banners were given into the Herald's custody. 6) Seneschal: All quiet on the Eastern front. 7) Chronicler: Again, The Cheesecloth was done and distributed to attendees - a special extra large edition! The mailing of subscriptions was done. Anyone who would like to receive the newsletter by mail should subscribe. As usual, The Chronicler reiterated a request that all the Cantonians keep an ear open and submit to her information for the "By the Whey" section of the newsletter. Articles are also welcome. 8) Historian: Elianne was unable to attend. Upcoming Events: 1) The Cloisters Demo is coming up on the 21st. Ervald sent an email report along, with a request for some kind of list ropes and a pavilion or two. He volunteered to host a post-revel as well. 2) The Queens Farm Demo is the same weekend (and for that matter, so are two other demos in the area - one in Long Island and one in Jersey). Queens farm is both Saturday and Sunday. 3) The Yule Event: The entertainment is coming together. Sancha says that Rufina is simply waiting on the music, and several attendees said they'd be interested in singing. Sancha talked to Brithwen about getting the decorations from Agincourt last year to recycle. Laurie expressed interest to Medb about putting together site tokens and Medb will get back to her. Medb will also double check about the number of chairs and tables the building can supply and line up more if need be. It was decided that there will be a High Table, although who will sit there is up in the air - certainly the Viceroy and Vicerine if they attend (although I think the Vicerine said she will be too busy with the Revels). Perhaps during the day, a Lord/Lady of Misrule will be selected to sit as well. Staff is starting to come together. Alexandre's cooking crew will be himself, Pascual del Mar and Lynn. Eularia will coordinate the servers and runners (and see if she can scare up some rolling carts to get the food from Medb's apartment to the hall.) Submitted by Alexandre d'Avigne
