Whyt Whey Commons - December 11, 2003 Attending: Ailith Eppu Jensen Alexandre d'Avigne Jeff Berry Anne White Marge Whitehead Eularia Trewe Lorree True Medb Mimi Curry Sancha Jessica Valadez Continuing Business: 1) January Commons will be at 552 RSD, on the 8th. 2) Tamara says (via email) that she's got space for a sewing circle for Mimi's down months. She's thinking either a Saturday or Sunday from about 11:00am to 4:00pm. She wants some feedback before fixing a firm date. New Business: 1) We are starting to acquire Canton stuff - Medb was declared Chamberlain by acclamation (but not officially) and Anne White offered to maybe help out with some storage. Officers Reports: 1) Knight Marshall: Not in attendance - no report. 2) Mistress of A&S: Tamara emailed a report. The Period Patterns were sold by the time I made my report. Apparently, there is a SCA-dian or SCA-dian wannabe here in the St. George region of Staten Island. I tracked said buyer down and may yet have access to said patterns. Ana has kindly forwarded, by e-mail, a prototype of an A & S report, that I'll be looking at and following as I send my own canton report to the powers that be. Jessica is writing a paper on Judicial Dueling, which she's forwarded to me for review. I was wondering if it would be appropriate for the Cheese Cloth? Having gotten good reviews on the Gingerbreade, I'm emboldened to try other Medieval recipes. (See what you started, Jeff!) The Feast of St. Nick's was wonderful in all it's facets-- the food was scrumptious, the music and dancing cheery, and the players (which I sadly missed) got great reviews. I'm wondering if, as A&S mistress, I should arrange to get a digital camera and forward pics to Lev? Would creating pictorial records of various A&S accomplishments fall within my range of duties, or would I be treading on the toes of others? Finally, the Whyt Whey Whyte Linen Workers are plodding along... Sancha will cut fabric for Mike's underwear, and I will sew it. The ultimate goal, as you know, is to collect money for Gold Key and then sew several items for the Gold Key chest. 3) Web Minister: Not in attendance, no report. 4) Exchequer: Not in attendance, no report. 5) Herald: Submit to Sancha! 6) Seneschal: Alexandre has a copy of the zip list and needs to go through and figure out how many folks the SCA,Inc. thinks we have in Whyt Whey, and how to contact the ones that we aren't in contact with. 7) Chronicler: The Cheesecloth is out. Send more stuff for By the Whey. 8) Historian: Absent. No report. Recent Events: 1) 100 Minutes War was attended by a number of our folk and was quite a nice event. 2) Sancha also made it out to St. Andrew's, which she said was smaller and quieter. 3) St. Nick's in Whyt Whey was given a thorough going over. Overall, everyone felt the event went very well, indeed, and that we should do it again. Eularia volunteered to autocrat next year's event. She will look into other sites, but keep Mimi's building as a fall back. The motivation for looking for another site is primarily for the feast - a larger kitchen more convenient to the feast area would open up options for the Cook. A few areas were open to improvement though: 1) getting some coat racks for folks to hang things on would be very useful in a site as small as this one - and probably anywhere. 2) a better system for reservations, troll and waivers needs to be put in place. Upcoming Events: 1) Some basic ideas for St. Nicks 2004 were discussed. 2) Mimi's space is a great resource and we should use it more often. We discussed a great many options for a small, tightly focussed, non-feast event sometime in June. Ideas centered around a collegium type event with classes and such (perhaps dance or music based) or a ball event. After some discussion, the idea was tabled until the January Commons meeting, where proposals should be submitted by would-be autocrats. If we can decide on a workable proposal then we will move ahead, otherwise, we will table it for 2004 and think about 2005 - since we need a few month's lead time to get it moving. 3) The idea of doing some kind of foodie thing was batted around; meetings, low-key "party" revels, or a progressive dinner.
