Whyt Whey Commons - September 8, 2005 Attending: AEllin Olafsdotter Anne Murphy Ailith Lytel alt Aldwuder Eppu Jensen Alexandre d'Avigne Jeff Berry Brian Bleich Elissa Coisini Laurie Postner Eularia Trewe Lorree True Llywellan ap Rhys Tom McCann Mael Eoin MacEochidh Michael Broggy Sancha de Flores Jessica Valadez Tauna AElswith Donna Bowers Introductions were made around the table to start the evening, since Brian was brand-new and several other people had not not met. Upcoming Events: A number of events are on the horizon. Sep. 10-11 : John Barleycorn in Northpass. Comments were made about how pleasant the event usually is and several people mentioned they were planning on going. Sep. 10-11 and 17-18 : MSR Demo at Sand's Point. Llywellan said that anyone who had never been to Sand's Point should try and make it since it's beautiful. He also said the relations between the MSR and SCA fencers are very cordial at the moment. Sep. 24 : Coronation in Settmour Swamp. Alexandre is cooking feast and some other people are planning on going. Sep. 25 : Curia is being held. Some folks are up in the air about going. Sep. 24-25 : Queen's Farm Demo. Scheduling conflicts are a drag. Several people said they were aiming for one day or the other, but it's a busy weekend. Oct. 2 : Ft. Tryon Demo. Alexandre urged everyone to attend and said he needed to contact Eileen Merle-Rao to get the details of driving and parking and timing and such. Nov. 16 : Agincourt. Scheduled opposite 100 Minutes War, which means both fighting and fencing attendance is likely to be low. Llywellan was going to look into simply not scheduling fencing on that account. Nov. 26 : St. Andrew's in An Dubhaigeainn. Alexandre plugged it a bit, since he likes An Dubh and has fun at their events. Officers Reports: Throughout, the purpose of each office was elaborated on, sometimes at length, for the benefit of all but especially those new to the SCA. 1) Seneschal: Alexandre outlined the current state of events in the Province with respect to the Viceregency, with help from other attendees. The main theme was, "we'll know more after Barleycorn and Ostgardr Commons." 2) Knight Marshall: Although Luis wasn't present, Mael Eoin and AEllin were able to verify that we had permits for Sep. and Tuesday nights and USP were ongoing. Presumably, they will continue through October. 3) Herald: Sancha says she has one submission. 4) Chronicler: Eularia provided copies of the September Cheesecloth. Although she didn't remind everyone to submit articles, artwork, event reports and, for By the Whey, newsy tidbits, I'm sure she meant to. New Officers and Deputies and Such: Tamara, our A&S Minister, has vanished from mortal ken, and Lady Tauna graciously agreed to take on the mantle of the office. Alexandre discussed the state of the offices, specifically addressing the questions of deputies and the time in office of some of the officers, then queried the old-timers about their desires. Eularia (Chronicler) and Sancha (Herald) both expressed a willingness to continue in their offices, although both also said that if anyone was interested in serving as deputy or even in taking over the office at some point in the near future, they would not be averse to the idea. Mael Eoin showed some interest in perhaps becoming Luis' Deputy Knight Marshall, and will be contacting Luis on the subject. Alexandre said that he was actively looking for a deputy and would like to hand the Seneschalate off to that person sometime in the next year or so. (January 2006 will mark his fourth year in the office.) Anyone interested in serving as a deputy in any of the offices should contact the officer in question directly. Continuing Business: Although we are nominally meeting quarterly, Alexandre scheduled a meeting for October 13, with the idea that a Fort Tryon post-mortem would be no bad thing. Tauna volunteered to have it at her place, but needed to check on a few things. If her place is not available, then we will fall back to Alexandre's. Submitted by Alexandre d'Avigne
